Setting up Widgets and Dashboards

This article explains which types of widgets and dashboards are available in DEXCell and how to configure them. It is divided into the following sections:

  1. Types of Dashboards
  2. Configuring Widgets and Dashboard

1. Types of Dashboards

 

Nowadays, DEXCell Energy Manager has three types of Dashboards: zone, location and template Dashboard.

  • Zone Dashboard: type of Dashboard used to projects with hierarchy, allowing to navigate for different zones and showing the aggregate data of all the locations you have. Hence, you can show data of weekly consumption of our locations aggregated.
  • Template Dashboard: this type of Dashboard will be useful for multi-location projects. With this type of Dashboard, you can generate a template with the corresponding widgets which you will use for all your locations. Thus, thanks to the selector of locations you can visualize the information without creating a Dashboard for each of the locations.
  • Locations Dashboards: this Dashboard is unique for a location.

In order to create a Dashboard, you have to click on "New Dashboard" on the left of the screen.



 

 

2. Configuring Widgets and Dashboard

Note: It is advised to start generating widgets after two weeks of receiving data.

The Widgets and the Dashboard, are suitable to have a look at what is happening and in order to control all the data that we are receiving.
First of all, we have to define our own Widgets. Then, we will configure our own Dashboard. Each user, have their own Dashboard.

In order to create a Widget, you have to go to your Dashboard and click on the '+' button. In the following image, you can see a list of the existing Widgets (if there are), and also you can create a new one.01_97e8d8b9a01df5521d261ece6e21c4b1ad38b54f5a26afe29736f5eaf183ea51.png



First of all, choose the widget that you want to add on your Dashboard and click "next":

Fill the form and click on “Finish”. This process is done with each of the Widgets you want to add to your Dashboard.

Common set up parameters are: 
  • Name: Widget name. This is useful to identify each of the Widgets created. It has to be unique.
  • Parameter: type of widget (for example,  temperature)
  • Group: you have to indicate which group is acting on the Widget

In each of the Widgets, it will appear the date.

  
Below you will find an example for each available widget type in DEXCell:  
  1. Last reading
  2. Pie Chart
  3. Bar chart
  4. Line chart
  5. Benchmarking
  6. Gauge
  7. Weather forecast
  8. Temperature
 


2.1 Last reading

This widget displays the latest reading for a device-specific parameter. You can use any device or group and either basic or calculated parameters. It also shows the maximum and minimum within a 
period.

2.2 Pie Chart

This widget displays as a pie chart on the distribution of a parameter between different nodes of a group. 
For example, when using the "hourly electrical energy", the pie chart shows the proportion of consumption that each device is within the group in the last hour. If you select a weekly service will be on the consumption of the last week.  
 
In the event that in a group, a device has set as a total, the remainder (total consumption minus consumption of other devices) will be calculated. When you configure a  pie widget, calculated parameters can only be selected (with sampling period hourly, daily, weekly or monthly) and groups with data on these parameters.

2.3 Bar chart

The bar chart shows historical parameter data during the specified period. The bars show the value of the parameter in the last, seven, or 28 days, and the dot represents the same value during the day, seven, or 28 days earlier. This is useful for viewing the change compared with the same type of day or time for this parameter in an earlier period. For example, you can see if a day is consumed more or less than the above, or if, 
during this month, in general, you are achieving savings from the previous month. 28 days are used instead of a calendar month to match the weekends.
  
You can view any parameter of any device or group, but we recommend only using calculated parameters, 
as the chart has a limited number of items to display.

2.4 Line chart

This widget displays as a line the values of a device-specific parameter. The dotted line represents the early period for the same device and parameters. The operation is similar to the Bar Widget, and we recommend its use to show parameters that are specific and not cumulative value (temperature, voltage, current, power factor).

2.5 Benchmarking

This Widget allows benchmarking of devices that are part of a group for a specified parameter. It also shows the median of the group. If one of the devices in the group is marked as "total" is not displayed in the comparison.  
 
You can only select groups and parameters defined in the group. If any group is displayed, remember to 
define a new service in the "Groups” tab in each location.

2.6 Gauge

The Gauge widget lets you quickly see the parameter value for a device in relation to a maximum. The minimum and maximum values could be set manually or automatically. So, you can indicate which are the min and max values or let DEXCell EM calculate the maximum taking the maximum period of the selected period. For example, if you select 28 days, it will show the last value on a scale from 0 to maximum value in the last 28 days.

This widget has 3 different zones represented with 3 colours (green, orange and red) depending on if you are closer to the maximum or the minimum values. You can also, set the thresholds for these 3 zones.

2.7 Weather forecast

The Forecast Widget lets us know in advance the maximum and minimum temperatures for today and tomorrow, which help us to manage the HVAC system correctly. To set it up properly, simply select the widget type "Prediction" and enter your zip code, accompanied by the country.

2.8 Temperature

The Temperature Widget lets us know the temperature in real time. Moreover, we can see the minimum and the maximum of a period which you select.

3. Change the background image of a widget

DEXCell Energy Manager allows customizing our widgets changing the background image. In this article is explained how to do it. 

To customize the background image, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your DEXCell Energy Manager account and go to Dashboard menu
  2. Create a new widget or edit an existing one
  3. Click the option "Use a custom image against the default widget background" to allow this feature20_81eaee17bc164e06a52160024b849d518bee069f50143a06eaa153571c6e49eb.png
  4. Click on "Select image" to upload your custom image. The recommended resolution is 200x200 pixels
  5. Click on "Save"

4. Configuring a Distribution widget

The distribution widget is so useful when you want to visualize the distribution of consumption from different devices from the general. This widget shows the consumption distribution for the selected devices over the main location consumption for the desired period.

1. To configure it properly, we need first to create the "Total" group. We go to Settings > Locations > Edit your location > Groups > New Group. As an operation, we select "Total" and then we indicate which device is the "Main" device.

2. Once we have the group created, we go to Dashboards and click on "New widget"
3. Write a distinctive name, select the parameter you want to visualize and the group previously created:

The pie chart shows the proportion of consumption that each device is within the general in a period of time.

4. This widget can be configured in Location Dashboards.
