Introduction
Analytics is the ultimate tool for combining and analyzing energy data from different sources.
It allows combining data from various parameters into a single multi-axis graph, displaying energy consumption alongside key variables such as degree days or occupancy, or even quickly plotting all relevant information for a Microgrid with PV solar panels.
It also facilitates energy managers in tracking their M&V baseline alongside their savings and the evolution of baseline variables.
Users can easily select the type of data they want to see, how they want to visualise it, the period for which to view the data, and the graph is generated easily.
Requirements
Remember that the platform can only display data if you have inserted it previously.
To view data on the Analytics screen, it is necessary to:
2. Accept the devices and parameters generated when the data enters the platform.
3. Assign those devices to their location.
Note: Currently, only super administrators and admins have access to this Analytics Beta feature.
Available Resolutions
The available resolutions on this screen are the ones you have configured in the Preferences section (Settings --> Preferences).
They can range from 5-minute to monthly.
There are some exceptions where not all resolutions are displayed, for example, depending on the selected period:
- Less than 1 day: All resolutions except daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Between 1 and 8 days: All resolutions except weekly and monthly.
- Between 8 and 28 days: Only hourly, daily and weekly resolutions are available.
- Between 28 and 59 days: Only hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly resolutions are available.
- More than 59 days: Only weekly and monthly resolutions are available.
Types of Datasources
The Analytics functionality offers three types of datasources: by parameter, by reference device and by M&V project. You can add these by "blocks", and you can mix the types of datasources in the same Analysis.
Options for each type of datasource:
- By parameter
-
-
- Select parameter.
- Select device(s).
- Select operation.
- Select ratio (optional).
- Show ratio resources (optional): Yes/No
-
By reference device
- Select location: Follow context.
- Select reference device category.
- Select reference device type.
- Select parameter.
- Select operation.
-
Project
- Select M&V project.
- Select what you want to compare the savings with (baseline/reference or target).
- Select concept that you want to visualise: Real consumption, Savings, Comparison reference.
-
Customise your graph
In your Analysis you can customise the way you want to visualise your selected data. On top of your analysis you will see the following options:
1. Period:
This screen allows different possibilities to choose the period. You can choose to view a fixed period or a rolling one, based on the current date and time.
Read more about the Period selector in this article.
2. Resolution:
Here you can choose the resolution of your data. Remember to check what resolutions are available for a given period here.
3. Comparison:
You can choose to compare your data to a previous period or to the same period last year. You have the option to "align weekdays" in order to make sure that your comparison takes into account the days of the week (e.g. comparing a Monday with a Monday and a Sunday with a Sunday).
4. Visualisation:
You can choose how you want to visualise your data, as depending on the selected datasources you may want to choose a visualisation graph or another.
The basic chart/widgets types, which are only available for Entry customers, are:
-
Line
-
Column (bars)
-
Stacked column (bars)
-
Pie chart
-
KPI
-
Simple table
The advanced chart/widgets types, which are only available for Advanced or Ultimate customers, are:
-
Area
-
Stacked area
-
Heatmap
-
Aggregated columns
-
Scatter plot
- Statistics
You can read more about the different types of visualisation in this article.
5. Acumulator Operation:
This is optional, you can choose not to use it. But if you choose to display the accumulator operator, your graph will accumulate overtime.
In the case of using the pie chart or KPIs, this function changes its name to reducer operation, and the summation function allows you to see the comparison of all summed data.
In the case of the Heatmap, we cannot accumulate the data.
Note: The maximum number of data series that can be added is 100. In the case of adding M&V project data blocks, only one can be added.
Visualisation Options
In addition to the many display options mentioned previously, the new Analytics functionality incorporates new features such as the following:
Units
If you need to adjust the scale of your units, you can now do so from the top of the chart, in the Units section, for the following parameters:
Distance. You can choose from the following scales:
- mm
- cm
- m
- km
Energy. You can choose from the following scales:
- Wh
- kWh
- MWh
- GWh
- BTU
- MBTU
- MMBTU
- toe
Power. You can choose from the following units:
- W
- kW
- MW
- GW
Energy/Surface area. You can choose from the following units:
- Wh/m²
- kWh/m²
- MWh/m²
- GWh/m²
- BTU/m²
- MBTU/m²
- MMBTU/m²
In addition, you can also use the following functions to enhance your experience when using the charts:
- Hover over the graph to see specific numerical data.
- Drag and drop to zoom in into a specific timeframe.
- Click on the button to hide the menu and have a larger image of the resulting graph.
Saving the Analysis
On the Analytics screen you can:
- Rename your analysis
- Save your analysis
You can also access your previously saved Analysis from the menu, by clicking on "Saved analysis list":
This will send you to the following screen:
Send to a Dashboard
You can directly copy your Analysis to a Dashboard.
By clicking on "Copy to a dashboard", you can select one of your existing dashboard to copy your analysis to.
When selected, the widget will be automatically added to your dashboard. You can follow the link to revisit the dashboard and rearrange the layout.
Data export
You can now download your Analysis in Excel to obtain raw data. You can do it directly from the list of Analysis or from inside the Analysis.
