Using Ratios in the Analytics module

Follow

In this article, you will learn how Ratios function within the By parameter in the Analytics module.

Contents:

Introduction

Ratios in the platform allow you to normalise energy consumption data therefore helping with obtaining fair comparisons of energy performance across different buildings or conditions, so you can make data-driven decisions to improve efficiency and spot trends which will help you in managing energy consumption effectively creating a competitive edge.

The factors which can be used as ratios are:

  • Surface area (m²)

  • Outdoor temperature (°C)

  • Indoor temperature (°C)

  • Business production (units)

  • Occupancy (people)

  • Outdoor humidity (%)

  • Indoor humidity (%)

This helps you compare energy performance across multiple devices or locations, even if conditions differ.

Note: Custom or on-the-fly ratios are not yet supported.

Requirements

To be able to use the Ratios function:

  • Make sure that the required reference devices (e.g., temperature, humidity) are properly configured for the ratio to work. You might need to go to your account preferences to add reference devices such as Occupation or Production.
  • The comparison can be done using up to 20 devices.
  • Only available in the “By parameter” preset in Analytics.

Note: If the reference data is missing or incomplete, the ratios may not apply correctly, resulting in an imprecise comparison.

Procedure

In order to obtain a good comparison between devices or locations, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Go to Analytics and select the By parameter preset.
  2. Choose a parameter (e.g., Active Energy) and up to 20 devices.
  3. Select a ratio (from the available list) to normalise the data.
  4. The system automatically applies the ratio to your data for consistent comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why can’t I select Degree Days ratios?

Degree Days require a specific reference device that’s not yet available. Once added and the system updated, this option will appear.

Q: Can I use ratios in any Analytics preset?

No, ratios are only available in the By parameter preset.

Q: Can I create custom ratios?

Not at this time. Only pre-configured ratios are available.

Q: What happens if my reference data is incomplete?

Ratios won’t apply correctly if the reference data (e.g., temperature) is missing or incomplete. Make sure reference devices are set up and reporting data.
